Expected to be a great blockbuster of this summer, Artemis Fowl turned out to be an unforgettable bomb and a failed adaption of Disney. All the elements of the movie such as picture, sound, acting, and script were assessed to be unsatisfactory if not to say disappointing, making the fans of the original comic series hit the roof.

Release date: June 12, 2020
Artemis Fowl was a cult 8-episode series composed and released by the author Eoin Colfer for the first time in 2001. The series has quickly captured the hearts of readers around the world, and even, the hotness of this talented child criminal is rated on par with Harry Potter. After several delays of the release date, the film adapted from this work was available on the Disney+ movie streaming platform in early June 2020. Let’s go review the movie Artemis Fowl Boy to see if there is anything interesting.
Plot: Artemis Fowl was a 12-year-old boy with natural talent. One day, his father was kidnapped by a stranger and he was asked to find Aculos – an item that helped teleport through the worlds. With his intelligence, Artemis discovered the fairy world deep in the ground and planned to find Aculos and rescue the father he loved so much.
We know about this movie because the trailer of the film had images of Ho Chi Minh City – similar to the original version of Artemis Fowl mentioned. However, when you watch the movie, you will be totally disappointed episode because these scenes were completely cut clean, even many interesting scenes in the trailer were not included in the movie. Our main character was just running around in his father’s magnificent castle, did not even take half a step outside, looking so cramped, so locked.
Artemis Fowl is a forgettable bomb for Disney, and releasing the movie online can be seen as a wise choice, at least minimizing the huge amount of loss of the movie which cost nearly $ 125 million. The whole story of the movie took place quickly, lack of emphasis and logic, which made the viewers feel extremely bored and uninterested. Maybe this movie was made just for U10-year-olds to enjoy.
What we dislike most is the way Artemis Fowl developed. The movie is constantly repeating that this boy is smart, talented, or don’t ever underestimate him, but there is nothing to prove that judgment. During the 90 minutes of the film, viewers did not notice anything cute, trustworthy, and admirable of this boy other than his stiff expression and attempt to look cool.
I have not read the story yet, but the fans of the series Artemis Fowl extremely detest the movie, because the film changed all the characters’ personalities. For example, the character Artemis Fowl is a genius of technology crime, but in the movie, he was “heroized” with a beautiful spirit. Particularly for me, I did not see this boy as a super child criminal but a member of a rural children’s group playing acting together.
In terms of logic, the film contains a basket of flaws. There are so many ridiculous and fictitious details. For instance, the whole organization pulled an army of people to surround the house of a young boy, with modern weapons but did not dare to do anything, just stood outside to create the eye-catching visual effects. In particular, the editing stage also had many problems, as if the film had had many good segments removed, so we could not understand why this character behaved like that.
Watching the entire movie, I do not know what message Artemis Fowl wants to convey to the viewers. The movie is too cluttered and merely like a child’s dream, which means naive and unrealistic. Friendship, paternity, and intrigue in the movie are built superficially, leaving no impression on the audience. I can only rate this part 3/10.
Picture – sound: Artemis Fowl’s special effects are at an acceptable level, not too bad, but not very realistic and impressive. The Trolls in the movie looked like they were taken from the game and the battle scenes were a bit too magical. The shape of the elf was not really special and the context of the film was poor, too cramped. In general, the movie’s visual part is merely an ordinary movie and doesn’t deserve a huge budget to make.
In the trailer of the movie, there was a scene of a white-shirted fairy dancing shot with the slow-motion technique that looks very artistic and beautiful, but the post-production part was cut out all of these scenes, making the film so monotonous. The soundtrack of Artemis Fowl was quite catchy, but the producers chose the wrong time for these tracks, so the efficiency was not high. I judge this section 5 out of 10.
Acting: Besides the handsome uncle Colin Farrel (as Artemis Fowl’s father) and the little girl Lara McDonnell (as the fairy Short), other actors have not done well in their roles. The most criticizing that was the Irish boy – Ferdia Shaw with stiff, awkward expression and limbs, unable to bring the peak spirit of Artemis Fowl. Maybe this was the first time standing in front of the camera, so he was still shy and feel difficult to create empathy in the audience. The biggest weakness of this part was that the character building was too sketchy and lacked emphasizing, so after watching, we can forget all the characters in it immediately. So, I can only give the acting part 4/10.
IMDB: 3.9 / 10 (3,875 reviews)
Rotten Tomatoes: 10/100 (rotten tomato)
In short, Artemis Fowl (2020) is truly a failed Disney adaptation of this year. This movie is only for dreamy kids because it is like a dream full of innocence, fantasy, and illogic of children. If anyone asks me whether to watch this movie or not, the answer is definitely NO.
